Pilot glossary
Task-board terms used consistently across briefings, files, and device instructions.
- Waypoint
- A named WGS84 coordinate from the organizer-approved waypoint set.
- Control zone
- Usually a cylinder around a waypoint. Reaching the coordinate itself is not necessarily required.
- Launch
- The physical takeoff site. It is separate from a TAKEOFF task element and must be confirmed independently.
- SSS
- Start of speed section. Used only when Brian intentionally defines a formal start.
- ESS
- End of speed section. It is not automatically the landing field.
- Goal
- The final task control. A goal cylinder or line is not landing permission.
- Guided XC route
- An untimed learning sequence with decision points, turn-back choices, and landing options.
- Classic GPS task
- A formal ordered course with cylinders and only the SSS, ESS, gates, and deadlines Brian actually defines.
- Report-back
- A positive message that a pilot is safe or needs retrieve or assistance. A tracker marker is not report-back.
- Nominal course line
- A schematic connection between controls, not a recommended track or terrain-clearance guarantee.
